BMI Calculator Malaysia – FAQ

What is BMI and why does it matter?

Body Mass Index (BMI) estimates body fat using height and weight. It helps screen for weight‑related health risks but does not directly measure body fat or fitness.

What BMI is healthy for Malaysians?

Malaysia commonly uses Asia‑Pacific cut‑offs: Healthy is 18.5–22.9. Overweight (At Risk) is 23–24.9, Obese I is 25–29.9, and Obese II is 30 or more.

Is BMI different for men and women?

The cut‑offs are the same, but fat distribution differs. Waist measurements add useful context: higher risk if waist ≥80 cm (women) or ≥90 cm (men).

I’m athletic or pregnant. Is BMI reliable?

Very muscular people may have high BMI but low body fat. BMI is not appropriate during pregnancy. Consider professional assessment.

What is waist‑to‑height ratio (WHtR)?

WHtR = waist ÷ height. Aim to keep it under ~0.5. It complements BMI by reflecting fat distribution around the waist.

Can I use lb/ft instead of kg/cm?

Yes. Toggle imperial units (lb, ft/in). The calculator converts automatically.

What’s my ideal weight for my height?

We show a healthy weight range based on BMI 18.5–22.9 for your height. Use it as a guide, not a target.
